The Hornets came out of the gate strong, scoring 2 runs in the top of the first, against the Chiefs who had just lost a heart wrenching game against the Wombats the week before. Although, the Chiefs could have packed up their bags against Hornets ace, Tyler Kapushinski, who coming into the game had only given up 3 runs in 22 innings pitched, they answered right back with 4 runs. The Chiefs took advantage of some defensive blunders made behind Tyler Kapushinski and a key 2 RBI single by Eric Malinowski. The Chiefs would drive in another run in the fourth, off an RBI single from Doug Whitehorn.

The Hornets would start the top of the 7th with a lead off triple by Christian Diaz. The Chiefs coach, Ben Hafford had to act quickly, as he couldn’t afford to lose another game where he was leading going into the 7th inning. He elected to bring in Eric Malinowski, who stranded the runner at 3rd while closing up the game.

Adam Malinowski got the win for the Chiefs in a gutsy performance beating the previously undefeated Hornets. Offensively, Luke Sacharczyk continued his hitting streak going 2-for-2 on the day, retaining the top position on the leader board for hits in the league. Paul Arce also had an excellent day at the plate, going 3-for-2 with an RBI. His two hits keep him in striking distance of Luke on the leader boards as we move look forward to week 6 of the GHIBL 2017 season.
