Recap

With the league standings extremely close, every game down the stretch could have huge implications for playoff seeding, and that was definitely the case for the Royals and Hoss Dental. The Royals won the first matchup, but Hoss was without ace pitcher Tyson Billings. The Royals also had their ace Avery Guernsey on the bump, and this game was every bit the pitchers’ duel it was slated to be.

Hoss was unfortunately down all three catchers on their depth chart, and it cost them as the Royals scratched across a trio of runs on wild pitches in the top of the first inning. Hoss would counter with a run of their own in the bottom of the frame, and that was it for scoring until the bottom of the 6th, as Aidan Cooney’s speed allowed him to steal second after a hit and score with ease on a Chris Watts single to right field. Guernsey would bear down throughout the remainder of the game, earning his third straight win for the Royals, who now sit at 7-5 and have a matchup with the Diamondbacks next Sunday.
